Firefox 2.0

September 5th, 2006

Testing the beta 2.0, looks quite stable, no memory lacks for now, fine :

* A new theme that updates Firefox’s familiar interface => this is cool, specially the tab presentation
* Built in Phishing Protection => good, even if I think I hadnt problems with that
* Enhanced search engine management and search suggestions for Google, Yahoo! and Answers.com => excellent !, and bigger in the default layout, real improvment
* Improvements to tabbed browsing, including the ability to re-open recently closed tabs => one extension less needed
* Firefox will resume from where you left off after a system crash or browser restart => one extension less needed bis
* Better support for previewing and subscribing to Web feeds => I still use Sage extension for now
* Inline spell checking in Web forms => yeah, even if dictionaries are a little painfull to install
* The ability to create bookmarks with “Live Titles” for Web sites that offer microsummaries => have to grab into this
* New Add-ons manager that simplifies management of extensions and themes.
* Support for JavaScript 1.7
* Extended search plugin format
* Updates to the extension system to provide enhanced security and to allow for easier localization of extensions
* Support for client-side session and persistent storage
* Support for SVG text using svg:textPath => perhaps Mozilla should help the guys of MS on this one
* New Windows installer based on Nullsoft Scriptable Install System, no difference seen for me, is probably a developer thing

» GMail code hints at coming domain feature | Googling Google | ZDNet.com:

Google’s GMail has been firing on all cylinders, but it could be on the verge of getting even more horsepower. Based on information found buried deep within the javascript source, we can start to see the bigger picture for GMail — what else could they possibly add to this mail client?

Internet Explorer 7 Microsoft : TEST

February 9th, 2006

I am currently testing the beta 2, first step install after downloading it here : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie7/ie7betaredirect.mspx

I dont want to use it (I need Firefox), but I want to see what it looks like.

License is in french and english (for Quebec) : 5 dollars im dommages are caused and if you speak french (didnt find it in the other part). ok, i click on accept, even if i do not really do.  Argh, the software check if my windows is legal (and it is actually). That was fast for me.

but the software should not be used on production systems in mission-critical environments.

Huh…. should I stop everything, sounds like turning off Anti-Virus

OK, now, I have to restart my computer, hope it is not just to see if 10 sub programs now will start automatically

wow, one tab open, and 50 Meg RAM in use, like in old times (my firefox uses 40 Megs)

to open a link in a a new tab, not too easy, ctrl+click do not work, right click on the link do not help. Bad Point.

The default menu at the top, do not use too much space, bad point.

Add-on manager, looks promising

Feed manager, that is not very special

Clsoing IE was fast, that is as well a good point.

It looks like a browser under development.
